Hîz Oghlan
In the steam-filled hammams of the Ottoman Empire, the hîz oğlanı moved between shadows and desire, a world hidden in plain sight. Known as hamam oğlanı, they carried the weight of social boundaries and the quiet power of intimacy.
This project reimagines that space through the eyes of a Slavic boy, stepping into an Ottoman world that is at once foreign and intimate. Hîz Oghlan explores identity and longing, the lines between history and imagination, and the ways desire traverses time and culture. It asks: what is inherited, and what is performed? The work becomes a mirror, reflecting the fluidity of self across eras, places, and bodies.
